Carmel blinked off her daze. Wait, what time is it again? And where am I? She slowly rubbed her somewhat aching head and sit up really slowly. She rubbed her palm to the ground and only then she realized that she hadn’t been napping in her room. There’s a rustle from above her and with a digruntled eep slipped from her lips, a squirrel fell right into her lap.
Carmel stared at the little furry thing in awe and she knew that her eyes was unblinking. She felt grin curling in her lips and with an inwardly cheer, she poked the animal in the cheek with her finger. The squirrel just purred and leaned more into her touch which caused her to grin even more and probbed the poor little thing more.
“Aww, look at you” She whispered and chuckled to herself. She put the animal perched at her shoulder as she searched for some fruit in her pocket. Aha. She took out a handful of strawberries she just picked from the strawberry fields. She patted the ground between her legs and spreaded out the berries and put the squirrel down with them. She lowered her hoodie and freed her blonde hair from its restrainment. She shook her head to clear her head more and looked at the bright sky clear without clouds.
She leaned more to the tree bark and watched the squirrel hesitantly munching the sour fruit. She bit her lips from squealing at the adorable-ness of the scene. She couldn’t hold her snicker when the squirrel threw away the strawberry to her pants and curling itself to the ground.
She took the remaining berries and gulped it down in one go. She grimaced as the sour taste rolled around her tongue and happy when the sweet taste came to replace it. She took the squirrel in her palm and stood up, brushing her pants off dirt in proccess with her other free hand. She inspected the tree she was using as shade and judged it as good enough to climb on. Putting the squirrel into her hoodie she put bot her hand into the wood and threw her foot to the nearest branch. After few minutes of trying, she was settled comfortably in one of the lowest tough branch with some hole which looked like squirrel nest.
“There you go, it’s your home right?” She patted the squirrel head and ushered it inside the hole. It stood on the branch without moving, just staring at her. She poked the front body of it and it wouldn’t budge.
“Are you kidding me. You want to come with me then?”She attempted to raise one of her eyebrow which failed epically. The squirrel just made a squeaky sound with adorable gesture and walked closer to her.
“I’m not one to refuse cute little companion like you then. May I call you Chip, like the squirrel from Donald Duck?” She cheekily said with one finger rubbing the squirrel head. It purred as response. She looked around and saw the peaceful canoe lake in sight. She imagined what it felt to be there and immediately made her decision. “Alright Chip, let’s go down. I’m in mood for some badass canoe riding!” She put up her hoodie back on and thumbed up at Chip as if it could understand what she meant. What the hell. She had many things to do with her newly found partner.
